    I know this video is old but I have found it SOO useful! Thank you !! May I ask... My young dog can sometimes get "bored" with training this, or become slow and overwhelmed when making too many mistakes. I try keep things upbeat and happy. I never scold her either. What can I do? All these dogs looks super drivey and enthusiastic.

      @pokeypig22 16 днів тому

      @@cassidymeyer6661 it is an oldie, but still a good one. I still use this method and teach all my students it. Make sure your success rate is high and your repetitions are low. End on the dog wanting to come back. Even if it’s a two minutes break doing tricks or throwing a ball, do something else after mate 2-3 repetitions. And help the dog if they don’t have at least a 75% success rate. Have fun! I also have this method as a virtual class if you want more specific videos on each step.

    Puzzled. At the 2:08 minute mark the left hand is initially used to send the dog to wrap ‘right’ around cone, the followed several times using right hand to do the same thing. Series is repeated several times.

    • @pokeypig22
      @pokeypig22 3 місяці тому

      The left hand starts as a forward send to get the dog to take the cone as a forward obstacle. The right hand then is cuing the turn/flip away. However, this is a super old video and I focus more on the verbals now and not on so much motion.

    I would love to find a BorderPap breader! Can anyone help me? Can't find any information on the internet regarding breeders for this little dog! I have had 4 border collies over the years and now that I am older, I would like a smaller dog that is still like a border and the BorderPap would be perfect. Please, if anyone can share information on a good breeder, I would be greateful!

    Starting at the 3 and 9 hours is that to teach the collection piece right away?

    • @pokeypig22

      Yes. Focuses more on the idea of wrapping the poles, bending … instead of plowing through them.

  • @thehomme

    Beginners really should put more emphasis on foundational cone work like this. It’s not the sexy stuff people looking to start want to do but it’s absolutely essential and makes everything that comes after so much easier to teach.

    Nice way to challenge their understanding. These short exercises really improve their hearing. I find some of my dogs are much weaker at the verbals in spite of pretty careful training. As I age, verbals more and more important, so glad current pupper seems to get the verbals well.
